The International Education Association of South Africa (IEASA), South Africa’s leading national organisation with a dedicated focus on higher education internationalisation, is delighted to invite you to its 26th Annual Conference, taking place at the Radisson Hotel & Convention Centre, Oliver Tambo Johannesburg from 20 to 23 August 2024.
This inspiring and interactive 4-day event will bring together internationalisation leaders, experts, academics and researchers, professional practitioners, educators, students and innovators as well as organisations and individuals interested in higher education internationalisation to share thoughts, research findings, lived experiences and good practice examples.
This year’s theme is ‘Navigating Internationalisation in Challenging Times.’
We are looking forward to engaging you around this theme at the conference, which promises to be an enriching and inspiring experience, offering a diversity of activities including workshops, keynotes, panel discussions, parallel sessions, networking opportunities and social events.
KEYNOTE SPEAKER BIO
Grace Naledi Mandisa Pandor
Born on 7 December 1953, Dr Pandor is South Africa’s former Minister of International Relations and Cooperation from 2019-2024.
Dr Pandor became an MP in 1994 and has amassed impressive experience in positions of public office, including Deputy chief whip of the ANC in the National Assembly from 1995 to 1998, served as the Deputy chairperson of the National Council of Provinces in 1998, and its Chairperson from 1999-2004.
Dr Pandor’s experience in education policy planning made her a welcome appointment as South Africa’s Minister of Education in 2004. She has been a member of cabinet ever since, and has served her country in the following portfolios:
- Minister of Education (2004-2009):
- Minister of Science and Technology (2009-2012);
- Minister of Home Affairs (2012-2014);
- Minister of Science and Technology (2014-2018); and
- Minister of Higher Education and Training (2018-19).
Thebe Ikalafeng
Thebe Ikalafeng is a Hall of Fame global African authority in branding and THE leading advocate for a brand-led African renaissance.
He is the founder of the seminal ‘Brand Africa 100: Africa’s Best Brands’ initiative widely referenced as the definitive barometer of African brands.

He has been to every country in Africa and every continent in the world from Cape to Cairo, and Greenland in the North Pole to Antarctica in the South Pole; trekked the rare silver back gorillas on the Virunga mountains in Rwanda and Uganda; rode the 52 hour historic TAZARA train that links Tanzania and Botswana; trekked the 116km King Moshoeshoe I walk in Lesotho; summitted Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mt. Sinai and jumped the 216m high Bloukrans Bridge bunjee, among his many breath-taking travels and adventures globally. Ikalafeng holds BSc. MBA and LLM (Intellectual Property Law) degrees and is a Chartered Marketer (SA). He has been recognized with Lifetime Achievement awards by Financial Mail AdFocus and the Public Relations Institute of Southern Africa. A consummate contemporary pan-African, “Thebe is Africa” as TedxGhana put it.
Described by New African Magazine as the “the foremost branding and reputation authority in Africa” in recognizing him as one of the ‘100 Most Influential Africans’; named one of the ‘100 Most Influential Creative People of African Descent’ by MIPAD on the occasion of the United Nations ‘International Year of the Creative Economy for Sustainable Development,’ and one of the ‘100 Most Reputable Africans’ “who continually improve lives in Africa and around the world” by Reputation Poll International, he has had a profound, sustained and distinguished contribution to branding in Africa and in shaping a positive narrative for the continent in a career that spans over 30 years building brands across Africa working in over 25 countries in Africa.
Judy Sikuza
Judy Sikuza is a mom, Mount Kilimanjaro Summiteer and Chief Executive Officer of The Mandela Rhodes Foundation. A leadership and organisation development specialist, she believes in the power of education and leadership to liberate and create more humane futures. Judy is a non-executive Board Director of Oxford University Press South Africa, and chairs the Board’s transformation and ethics committee.
She is also a member of the 2030 Reading Panel convened by previous Executive Director of UN Women, Dr Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, which seeks to influence work being done across sectors to ensure that all children in South Africa learn to read for meaning by 2030.
Some of Judy’s achievements include being an Abe Bailey Fellow, Mandela Rhodes Scholar, Fulbright Scholar, Mail & Guardian’s Top 200 Young South Africans, Archbishop Desmond Tutu Leadership Fellow, Sarie magazine’s top 10 women under 30, and has received special alumni awards from both her high school and university for outstanding, all-round achievements in her career. She has a Master’s degree in Organisation Psychology from Columbia University in New York City, and is a certified coach through the Centre for Coaching at the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business. In her spare time Judy enjoys tennis, nature walks, travelling, music, art, reading, and spending time with loved ones and her beloved daughter Zazi.
