Vuyelwa is keenly interested in indigenous African music education, ecomusicology, ethnomusicology and internationalisation. Vuyelwa has held the position of SRC Postgraduate Affairs Councillor and served for two terms in 2021 and 2022. She was also the first to person hold this leadership position at the University, a former member of Senate and University Council, amongst other committees.
