NAVIGATING INTERNATIONALISATION IN CHALLENGING TIMES

Ashleigh Brown Grier

Ashleigh Brown-Grier, Ph.D. is a recent alumni of Howard University and 2023 Fulbright U.S. Student Researcher at the University of KwaZulu-Natal School of Education. Her Fulbright research examined the longstanding inequities at HBUs (Historically Black Universities) caused by Apartheid and their exacerbation during the COVID19 pandemic.

Ashleigh is an advocate for social justice in international higher education, internationalization at U.S. HBCU’s- historically Black colleges and universities- and their students in the field of international education. She founded the nonprofit organizations international HBCU xchange, Inc. (iHBCUx) and Fulbright HBCU to increase HBCU student participation in federally funded international exchange programs. She was previously a 2016-2017 Fulbright U.S. Student English Teaching Assistant in Malaysia. Ashleigh holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music-Voice from Talladega College, where she served as Miss Talladega College. She also has a Master of Arts in Teaching from Morgan State University, and a Master of Science in Education, Higher Education from the University of Pennsylvania.
